Though you may only personally sway one person's beliefs, the change for the better can continue indefinitely even if each person in the chain also only convinces one individual of a better way.

Minorities run democracies through the complacency of the majority. This can lead even a majority that should have great power to simply become slaves.

Those who try to enforce justice tend to find it difficult to get along.  Those who try to get along tend to find justice. 

True power comes in the ability to convince others you are on the same side. Some abuse that power with cheap parlor tricks such as degrading a common enemy. Let us wield power in a way that benefits all, making true alliance probable.
